This is time-sensitive — For Miami, when the ocean no longer sings.

"The Ocean Dances Over Sun Buttered Mountains," 2021, is an immersive installation that addresses themes of climate change, degradation of the coral reef through bleaching, and seawater rise. The work comprises ceramic porcelain forms that are hand-built and slip-cast, mimicking various coral species and their fragility.

The title is rooted in magical realism, using a visual allergy to address Miami's climate crisis and environmental issues to explore marine life and cityscape. The installation overlooks the Biscayne Bay and Brickell, the city financial center, where glittering business towers and luxury condos tower over residents. Climate change is without question the single most crucial issue facing Miami residents today. Children of this generation could see the ocean swallow low line cities within 80 years if the fossil fuel pollution causing climate change continues unabated - a 2019 study published in the National Academy of Sciences.

This collaborative installation is with artists Lauren Shapiro and Beatriz Chachamovits. Additional with Andrew Copeland and Cornelius Tulloch. Special Thank you to the Bakehouse Art Complex for its facilities and resources.
