My immersive installation PARADISE is a multi-layered story rooted in my Haitian Identity and Magical realism within the Caribbean landscape. The piece pays homage to my grandfather and his legacy; through farming, he was able to place all eleven of his children in school. The installation is constructed using raw organic materials, including coffee beans and plants, recycled cardboard, and other sustainable materials. The phrase “Doing Is Everything” mirrors a philosophy that ‘hard work’ can lead to a brighter future for generations to the next.

Program Overview:

Nespresso is showcasing the works of local artists in flagship boutique windows in four major cities across the country. Globally, they have launched a campaign called “Doing Is Everything,” which encourages people to take action that drives impact. Four visionary artists are bringing “Doing Is Everything” to life, weaving in upcycled, eco-conscious materials and inspiring others to take action themselves.

●      Four local artists from cities across the country (New York City, Los Angeles, Miami and San Francisco) have created engaging Nespresso window displays that aim to inspire action that drives impact.

●      All displays bring to life the brand’s global sustainability message, “Doing Is Everything,” in hopes to inspire others to take action around the things that matter most to them.

●      Each Nespresso window display is an immersive, 3D sculptural installation, reflecting the values of the brand and each individual artist.

●      This program is the first execution of Nespresso’s new boutique window marketing strategy, shifting from traditional, 2-D static window displays focused on product to interactive and immersive displays, illustrating creative impact.

●      Nespresso is committed to producing the world’s finest coffees while creating a positive impact. Sustainability is an integral part of Nespresso’s coffee business, from the brand’s work with farmers to the packaging of its capsules. Nespresso coffees are packaged in aluminum, a material that preserves the quality and freshness of the coffee and can be recycled repeatedly.

Why are you partnering with Nespresso?

Through a contemporary reconfiguration of the black experience, my work catalogs a powerful record of environmental decay at the intersection of economic inequity, the commodification of industry, personal labor, and race. Nespresso's commitment to environmental sustainability as a core strategy while producing the highest quality products is reflective in my core work ethic. Collectively, we face many ecological and social challenges with the impacts of climate change. Thus, with the integration of sustainable and innovative technology and processes, we can help heal the planet towards a brighter future -- a theme that resonates within my artistic canon and approaches.

What is the Nespresso campaign “Doing Is Everything” about?

Globally, Nespresso launched a campaign called “Doing Is Everything,” which encourages people to take action that drives impact. Myself and four visionary artists are bringing “Doing Is Everything” to life, weaving in upcycled, eco-conscious materials and inspiring others to take action themselves.

 How do you interpret "doing"?

For me, the term "doing" is synonymous with ideas of labor and the working class. I come from a legacy of farmers, oral historians, and medical practitioners. "Doing" is a means of understanding the world around me. The process of "doing" leads to tools of the imagination and fosters process; it allows you to escape the realities of despair and uncertainty. Through "doing," you're ensuring a lasting legacy of traditions and culture from one generation onto the next.
