ZEST Collective Contemporary Performance Art
Drawing from narrative resources within the performers, ZEST pulls from memory, imagination and the celebration of self. ZEST COLLECTIVE is a pioneer community that thrives on innovative means of creative expression.
George and his associates host Movement Workshops at varied businesses, dance and cultural institutions where they find significant inspiration. The company teaches dance to and directs an array of people, including professional athletes, teachers, students, and elders through guided improvisations, facilitating their therapeutic, physical, spiritual and imaginative investigations.
During each workshop small dances are generated from the participants’ material. The work is filmed, and, through a thorough Abstraction Process, George proceeds by delivering the material to ZEST’s Dance Artists - directing them through a series of Reinterpretation Exercises to sculpt work reflective of all varieties of life. ZEST’s community outreach efforts are unique services that provide continual inspiration.
The company thrives on the processes by which material is created. Rehearsals are organic, task-based and rely on stimuli from George, whose aim it is to evoke a response, unique to the body of the performer. All who enter the process are Creators. Contributions made from collective discoveries inform each Art Project as creative control does not lie solely with any theater-maker.
Each work in our repertoire is a Moving Art Instillation as we bring people to non-dance environments to experience the same thing they would if inside a theater. ZEST COLLECTIVE archives every performance and rehearsal procedure in the form of video, painting renderings and literature, and therefore opens channels for collaborations with Artists of various disciplines and training.
